The bowlers with deeper understanding and comprehension bowling terms have an added advantage as far as the game is concerned. A good command of bowling terms is one central ingredient in pursuit for successful bowling career. As one would expect, the mastery of the following bowling terms would potentially go along way in improving a player’s field performance and achievement. First, Bias is the curve that a bowl will take during its course to the jack, which varies depending on conditions and competitions. A Burned End is one where the Jack has been moved outside the boundaries of the rink by a bowl in play, which must be replayed. Delivery is the term used for the action of throwing a bowl, which can be compared to a golf swing. The term Draw commonly refers to the type of shot being played in bowling. A drive is a type of shot where the player delivers the bowl with maximum force toward the target.

Additionally, End is the last five or six feet of the lane where the pins stand.  A Guard is an approach deployed by experienced and professional bowlers to deliver the bowl in way that would put a ceiling on the opponent’s access to the target. The Head is the name given to the bowls that congregate around the jack at the end. It is common for poor amateur bowlers to deliver Heavy shots that go offside the jack. The Jack is normally white and weighs 250g and a diameter of 5cm. Jack High means a bowl that is at the same level with the jack on either side. Furthermore, a Lead is one who plays first in pairs, triples or fours game that is responsible for setting the mat and delivering the jack to start the end. The curved bowl routes during delivery are referred to as Lines.

Moreover, the Second refers to the actual second player after the lead that is responsible for taking the number of shots scored in a game. Additionally, a Short is a weakly delivered bowl that has insufficient power to propel it over to the target. Shot can either be the number of points scored on an end or the type of delivery, for example a drawing shot. The game instructor referred to as the Skip is the captain of a team, who directs the play during an end. The Third is the plays after the second one and works cooperatively with the opponent. Finally yet importantly, a Toucher is the bowl that during its course touches the jack before finishing within the boundaries of the rink. The Weight refers to the power applied to a delivery. Lastly, Woods refer to the heavy wooden bowls used before plastics were introduced.
