Wood pellet fuel has become quite the topic of discussion lately.  More and more people are becoming aware of wood pellets and of all the advantages they hold over the competition.  This fuel is also less polluting so it is not as toxic to the environment.  Wood pellets are readily available all around the world so they are easy to find and never a hassle to try and shop for.

One question that a lot of people have is whether or not you can actually make your own wood pellets and the answer is yes, you can.  First you will need to get a wood pellet making machine.  You can make your machine too if you are really eager, but to save yourself a lot of time and hassle you can buy one new or used for pretty cheap.  There are very few if any actually productive homemade pellet making machines in action yet.

Now you have to get the supplies you will be using to actually make the pellets.  You can use anything from straight softwood or hardwood to sawdust.  Many people prefer to recycle as much as they can and do so by using waste wood to make their wood pellets.  Even sawdust can make wood pellets as long as you have the right binding material.

Whatever medley you decide to concoct, you will have to assess things first and determine whether or not the supplies need to be resized.  If the supplies you are using are too large to fit in the machine properly you will have to size them down.  You will need to start by assessing what materials you are working with and what has to be done with them before they can be turned into wood pellets.  It all depends on the size of machine you have as well as the size of the supplies as to how much you will need to resize them.

Many beginners neglect this step but it is of extreme importance that you do not.  Without the right moisture content the wood will either end up chipping or mold together into more of a paste.  Some wood will need to be dried, as the moisture content of wood used for wood pellets should be anywhere from 10-20 percent.  In no time at all you will be making your own wood pellets and reaping all the benefits that wood pellet fuel has to offer.
