There are a number of people who don’t like their sleep disturbed particularly after a long and stressful day at work. Nevertheless, on many occasions you may have been awakened by your phone ringing, or a loud bang, but there is nothing worse than being woken up with your body itching due to bed bug bites. Till lately, bed bugs were not thought of, but these very small pests have now crept into many houses, causing a lot of inconvenience to people. If you’ve not yet had an encounter with bed bugs, you may want to know what measures should be taken for preventing bed bugs from entering your home, especially your bed.

Bed bugs generally don’t travel on people; instead they cling onto any luggage or bags you may be carrying, and enter your house along with them. This can be avoided by simply storing your clothes in Ziploc plastic bags when traveling. Moreover, if you’re staying in a hotel, try not to leave your clothes lying around as this gives the bed bugs a chance to crawl into them and hide. Even though this might draw unwanted attention, you can also use a large plastic bag to carry your luggage in, as it’s better than bringing home bed bugs that will keep you up all night.

As bed bugs prefer warm places, put the plastic bag with your baggage in the freezer after coming back home from a holiday, thus preventing bed bugs from creeping all over the house. However, you’ll have to own a freezer that has enough space to keep your luggage in. Though it is something unusual to do, the truth is, bed bugs cannot live in freezing temperatures. Make sure that the baggage is left in the freezer for at least two weeks, so that the bed bugs will die.

Reading reviews on a specific hotel you desire to stay in, will be a great idea. You’re sure to find it in the reviews if that specific hotel has a problem with bed bugs. In any case, it would be better to check your hotel room thoroughly for bed bugs, especially in the crevices of beds, or in the folds and creases of mattresses.

Even though you’ll find some of these pointers a bit difficult to deal with, but if you have a little patience, the effort and time put in will be well worth it. That’s because, if you’re bitten by bed bugs just once, you’ll be itchy for a long time. So, with the help of these tips, you can be sure to have no more sleepless nights whenever you hear those words again sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite.
