Irritable bowel syndrome, a functional disorder of the gut, is the most common culprit of stomach bowel pain. When the body works abnormally yet the system itself is normal, it’s termed as function disorder. Normally, in IBS, the stomach appears upset most of the time under a microscope even if other parts of the gut seem normal.

How is Irritable Bowel Syndrome diagnosed?

If you believe you have IBS, going to your doctor to seek help is the first step. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is typically diagnosed on the basis of a complete medical history and a careful description of symptoms and a physical examination.

Your doctor will ask if your symptoms have had a pattern over time. The pattern it may aid your doctor to evaluate if the cause of your stomach bowel pain. For other cause of stomach pain certain tests such as blood test and colonoscopy maybe required by the doctor.

Usually, most doctors carefully determine the symptoms based on a list before concluding that it is IBS indeed.

Symptoms : Abdominal pain that’s recurrent and discomfort for at least three months in a year. The 12 weeks can be intermittent. Usually, any of the two symptoms below indicate abdominal pain:
