Worm farms are of great interest to a lot of people and you may be one of the many people out there who is interested in starting up their very own worm farm. If so, it is a very simple process to get started but you will need to do a bit of research and learn how to take care of your worms. If you enjoy fishing and you like to go regularly this can save you a lot of money in the end. There are various different worm farm problems that you could experience but you can deal with anything that comes your way.

One of the most common problems with worm farms is the worms not eating enough. If you find that you are feeding them once or twice a week as you are supposed to and that they do not seem to take an interest in the food, it could just be that you are feeding them the wrong things. Worms do like to eat coffee grounds, teabags, dirty paper, vacuum cleaner dust and hair but will not eat garden waste, citrus, flour and milk products. You may have heard the wrong things somewhere and started to feed worms the wrong foods but now you know what they like and what they do not like so you can solve the problem.

Often people with worm farms notice that there is rotting food left in the container. You have to consider how small worms are so you may be putting too much food in at a time. Try feeding a bit less and if that is all eaten up you can add a bit more in and then continue with this until you have found the proper balance. The problem with rotting food is not only that it will stink up your house or yard but also it can make the worms sick if they try eating it.

If you are watering the soil too much you will be able to tell because you will see the worms climbing up the sides of the container. The worms are trying to get away from the water so they do not drown so you need to deal with this problem immediately. These drainage holes are what allow the water to seep through the soil and bedding and make its way through the bottom of the container. Dry leaves and paper products added into the bedding will help soak up water and keep your worms safe.

Putting in more bedding will help soak up water and you may want to try watering less frequently as well. It can take a bit of time to get used to caring for a worm farm. You need to keep the worm farm from becoming overpopulated and also check regularly to see that the worms look healthy. Having a worm farm can be fun but watch out for these problems and work to take care of them before it is too late.
