It is important to make sure that kids are having fun while they learn.  The main reason that so many kids get fed up with school and get tired of learning is because they are not having fun, not enjoying it.  If you are able to keep a child’s attention and keep their interest, you can help them learn anything. One of the best ways to show kids how enjoyable math can really be, is by showing them some fun math games for kids.

One of the most fun math games kids can play is the Set of Tiles game. The purpose of this game is to help kids develop a sense of number, while also helping them improve their addition and subtraction skills. All you need to play are a set of printable cards or tiles, or you can use a set of blocks if you have one handy. Then you just get the children to use the different tiles to start adding or subtracting.

It makes it easier for younger children because instead of just having to count in their head they have actually items they can use to keep track as they go.  There is another game that is really simple and fun, suitable for kids of all ages.  There is another fun math game that is known as Odd and Even and which is quite well known among school age children.  Only two players can play this game and each child starts with one hand behind their back.

Then each child chooses a hand to put behind their back.  The numbers of fingers on both children’s hands are counted and if there is an odd number the child who chose to be odds will win and vice versa if there is an even number. One child is odds and one is evens and so when the fingers are counted together if there is an odd number, the first child will win and if there is an even number the second child will win.  Although the idea behind it is basic, it is very effective at teaching children to count automatically rather than having to think about it.

This is a really simple game which is helpful because kids are able to catch onto it so quickly.  You can even come up with your own ideas for games right at home. It does not matter so much what the game actually involves as it does helping your child to work on their math skills without making everything so serious.  You can focus on anything from addition, subtraction or multiplication to rounding and place value.
