Knowing that bed bugs can feed on you while you sleep is not only creepy, it’s downright risky to your health also. And, their ability to multiply very rapidly from one single bug who took a ride in your suit case from your last vacation is scary, too, along with their ability to hide in the most concealed places in your house. Therefore, the moment you find a sign of bed bugs in your house like dark spots on sheets and bed frame from the bugs’ feces, blood stains from squished bugs, or bite marks on your skin, use some bed bugs home remedies to prevent infestation. Among the popular bed bugs home remedies for bed bugs include the use of diatomaceous earth, steam cleaners, and tumble dry heat or intense sunlight to eradicate the bugs.

For none-toxic, relatively cheap bed bugs home remedies, use food-grade diatomaceous earth that you can buy from hardware stores or online. You want to spread the diatomaceous earth on to your bed frame’s nook and crannies, under mattress, wall corners, inside unused drawers, under the rag, or anywhere you suspect the bugs are and you don’t mind spreading the earth over. The diatomaceous earth kills bed bugs by wounding them and sucking their fluids out; it’s not toxic to them nor does to you. And when it’s time to remove the diatomaceous earth out, you just simply vacuum it together with the dead or dying bed bugs with it.

You can also use your steam cleaner as bed bugs home remedies without residual toxic effects unlike insecticides. To effectively kill the nasty insects, steam the area for about 2 to 3 seconds every cleaning session to really allow the heat to penetrate the cracks and reach the insects including their eggs. Steam areas like the folds of your mattress, inside of your dresses, crown moldings, upholstery, sofa, or anywhere you suspect the bugs are hiding. You have not only taken care of your bug problem, you also have cleaned the house after several steam cleaning sessions.

The moment you see signs of bed bugs in your house, wash your sheets, laundry, and sleeping clothes in warm water with bleach immediately. It’s best to use the dryer set to maximum heat for 20 minutes because the heat will kill the bugs from your washed items, but remember you can’t do this to all fabrics. For other items that are not suitable for washing or machine drying, you can place them under intense sun for few hours turning them over every once in a while. Use the bed bugs’ sensitivity against heat as potent bed bugs home remedies that will not endanger your health like synthetic insect killers do.
