It doesn’t matter if you’re planning to enter your dog into any competitions there are a few home dog training basics that are important to cover.  Every dog should be trained to be a polite and well behaved dog.  You don’t want your dog to jump up on people when they come to your home or bark all the time for no reason.  These are a few home dog training tips that all dog owners should be teaching to their pet.

One of the most common problems that house dogs have is they go to the bathroom inside of the home.  An important home dog training tip for housetraining is to remember to have patience with puppies and take them out more often than you probably do.  Puppies are unable to fully control their bowels until they are about six months old, so don’t get too mad at them if they’re not toilet trained by this age.  Puppies need to be taken outside to go to the bathroom much more frequently than adult dogs.

One helpful home dog training tip that helps with housetraining is to make it an enjoyable experience for your dog to go outside to the bathroom.  If you’re angry at them for having to go outside or are constantly rushing them, they are going to be worried and not want to go outside.  This behavior is going to be confusing to the dog and they won’t be as eager to go outside when they feel the need to go to the bathroom.  Often time dogs have a problem with barking where they’re not only barking to protect the family and home but also throughout the day on a regular basis, seemingly for no reason.

The best home dog training tip for stopping dogs from barking incessantly is to pay attention to the dog and how they’re acting in general, to determine what the problem is.  Dealing with a barking problem can actually be quite difficult because all dogs are different and one solution is not always going to be the answer.  They may be barking for attention because you’re at work most of the day and they feel neglected, or they could be sick and barking because they’re in pain.  Try starting off by telling the dog to be quiet in a stern but calm voice.

If you find that this isn’t working the next step would be to try taking the dog outside when they start barking again.  After this it would be wise to bring the dog to the vet to make sure that they’re in good health and don’t have any health conditions that are causing them pain.  These are just a few of the most basic home dog training tips.  Training a dog can certainly be quite a challenge but with patience you can train your dog properly.
