In order to ensure that a dog is safe among other animals and other people, most dog owners ensure that their dogs are well trained.  Trained dogs are also more manageable and also become easier to get along with and play with.  Dog owners find great companionship in dogs that are well trained because they obey commands.  An untrained dog is not ideal as a pet especially for young children because it may react according to its animal instincts and therefore pose a threat to the child or other people.  In order to train a dog, it is important to gather all the information that one requires before they start the lessons.  Training animals in general requires plenty of patience and enough knowledge on what the animal might react positively to.

Using professional dog trainers is very expensive for some people and they prefer to do the training themselves.  In this case, it is important to be equipped with the correct information and material needed to ensure successful training.  Most websites that deal with dogs and almost all animal shelters normally avail most relevant information that pertains to general training of dogs.  One of the most common pieces of information is that dogs need to be respected to ensure that they do not rebel against their owner and therefore reject all the lessons that are being taught.  According to many experts, dogs that run away are those that were not happy and therefore became either very difficult to train or others were simply impossible to train.

Information on where the dog should be trained in terms of venue is also very important.  For many people, the first thought on training venue is dog parks because they assume that all the people who go there are watching their dogs and it is therefore the safest place.  Nonetheless, dogs are still animals and when they see other dogs moving too close towards their territory, they will naturally attack them.  This may be very dangerous for puppies and small dogs because if attacked by large dogs, there could be great injury caused or sometimes even death.  Dogs cannot exactly be trained to let go of their natural instinct to attack other animals and it is therefore very important to keep an untrained dog away from other dogs or to keep a tight leash on it to ensure its safety.
