Sleeping with bed bugs on your bed is not only a scary prospect it’s also poses threat to your health as bed bugs can cause diseases. Getting rid of bed bugs should be given priority if you think they are present in your bed concealed in cracks and folds of your mattress. Before you start waging war against the bugs, however, you have to know whether they are present or not in your bed. And when you do, there are simple ways you can do to remove them for good to rest your mind that you are not sharing your bed with tiny vampires.

Although bed bugs can feed on you during the day, they are most active during the night so that getting rid of bed bugs can be a challenge. Often times, you don’t need to look for the creepy crawlies themselves to tell if your bed, chair, sofa, or your dressers are infested. You only need to look for signs like blood streaks on your sheets, molted skin from nymphs deposited in crevices, and tiny dark spots on bed frames and sheets caused by the bug’s fecal matter. Sometimes bed bugs also reside in wall edges, carpets, wood molding, headboard crevices, and bed lamps.

If you’re certain that your bed room is infested, act on it immediately because the insects multiply quickly and getting rid of bed bugs should be given utmost attention. What you can do is to wash your bed sheets immediately including your curtains and laundry with warm water or with disinfectant and machine dry after. If you need to dry clean them, tell the dry cleaning that the laundry is infested so that they can take proper action not to infect other laundry. Once you’ve taken care of the laundry, you can start cleaning and disinfecting your room with other means.

There are two ways you can do when getting rid of bed bugs: you can vacuum clean the infected area or you can steam clean it. Vacuum the corners and edges of your bed frame, seams of your mattress, headboard, drawers, lamps, and every other objects in your bedroom that have cracks for bugs to proliferate. You can also use a power steamer to steam clean your bed mattress and spray steam for 2 to 3 seconds on places you suspect with bed bugs. However, once you notice the bugs are not going anywhere, don’t hesitate to call an exterminator because getting rid of the bed bugs is taking care of your health also.
