In the last 20 years, divorce statistics have increased dramatically and today a divorce is taking place every 10 ‚Äì 13 seconds. Divorce courts in America are processing one in two of all marriages. There is much trauma for all who go through divorce and the consequences are far reaching. Children, for example, are less likely to finish high school and are more likely to repeat the divorce cycle in their own lives.  Another challenge that is often faced is about finances as expenses that would normally be shared are not.  There are many reasons as to why one would divorce their spouse and the facts are worth looking into.

The main culprit when it comes to divorce is infidelity.   90% of all divorces that happen in a long-standing marriage involve infidelity at some point in the marriage.  In addition, more than 2 out of 3 divorcing couples are dealing with the issue of an affair in marriage with statistics showing 70 percent of men and 60 percent of women in marriage being unfaithful. Half the couples currently facing divorce may be involved in a current affair, however only a fourth of the cases in divorce court will cite unfaithfulness as the cause for the divorce. Of note is the fact that 80 percent of those who undergo divorce because of, or during an affair regret this decision afterwards.

The fact that the consequences of divorce are far reaching has been common information for a long time. It is a fact that 1 in 2 of all women and 1 in 3 of all men who go through divorce remain angry for as long as 10 years subsequent to the divorce as the anger experienced tends to persist for many years. Subsequent to the divorce, women take much longer than men do to move to a new relationship. With infidelities, featuring so highly in divorce one would think that marrying the partner in an affair would solve the issue.  On the contrary, more than 75 percent of those who go on to marry the person they were cheating with end up in divorce as well because the average affair is only good for 2 ‚Äì 4 years.

Divorce can be filed under three types of divorces. These include at fault, summary divorce and no fault divorce. Usually an ‚Äòat fault‚Äô divorce is more expensive than a ‚Äòno fault‚Äô divorce and it may therefore be easier to take that option.  It is more costly to file an ‚Äòat fault‚Äô divorce than it is to file a ‚Äòno fault‚Äô one and it may be prudent and easier to go the ‚Äòno fault‚Äô route.
